Maths Workshops for Children and Parents

We are delighted to be able to offer maths parent and child workshops to support children in Years 1 through to 6.

These interactive workshops are well-attended and parents have reported they were of enormous help in preparing children for the curriculum being taught. They have the added benefit of allowing you to see the methods for calculation that we use in school so that you can support your child with their maths at home. They are also an opportunity for you to ask questions about the curriculum. If your child is involved in an after-school club on either the Thursday or Friday sessions, parents are welcome to attend the sessions without their children.

WHO LEADS MATHS WORKSHOPS?

The following teachers lead our maths parent and child sessions:

Year 1/2 - Miss Spears (Weekly, Thursday 3:15 - 3:50pm)
Year 3/4 - Miss Gladstone (Termly- see dates below, 3:20pm - 4.30pm)
Year 5/6 - Mr Jones (Termly- see dates below, 3:20pm - 4.30pm)

Key Stage One (Years 1 & 2)

In Year 1 & 2 we offer a weekly ‘pre-teach’ workshop, led by Miss Spears. This session will cover some of the foundational number skills children will need for maths in the coming week. This takes place on most Thursdays after school 3.20-4pm in Birch Class. You do not need to book a place for these sessions. Siblings are welcome to attend but we ask that you give them a quiet activity to do during the workshops e.g. reading, drawing. For the full list of pre-teach sessions this term, please see the attachment below.

Key Stage Two (Years 3 & 4, Years 5 & 6)

In Key Stage Two, we are now offering termly parent workshops led by Miss Gladstone in Year 3 & 4 and Mr Jones on Year 5 & 6. These sessions will cover the number skills that are the foundation of the maths curriculum through demonstration and games you can play with your child. Siblings are welcome to attend but we ask that you give them a quiet activity to do during the workshops e.g. reading, drawing.

We would really encourage you to attend these termly workshops, so you have a clear idea of which methods we teach and how your child can be more confident using these.
